Job Title : Director of Human Resources
Reports to : Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
University Orthopedics, Inc. is looking for a Director of Human Resources to manage the daily operations of the HR function across our growing practice. This individual will be responsible for overseeing recruitment, employee relations, compliance, benefits administration, training, and performance support. The Director of HR will play a key role in fostering a positive workplace culture and ensuring HR practices align with organizational goals.
Supporting the senior leaders and department managers, the Director of HR will help drive employee engagement, support workforce development, and ensure compliance with relevant employment laws and healthcare regulations, including HIPAA. This position requires hands-on leadership and the ability to implement HR best practices in a dynamic, mission-driven healthcare setting.
Essential Job Functions / Responsibilities :
Human Resources Operations & Support
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the HR department, ensure processes run smoothly and efficiently.
- Manage the HR and payroll team, ensuring roles are clearly defined, responsibilities are met, and team members are supported in their professional growth.
- Serve as a resource to employees and managers on HR-related questions, policies, and procedures.
- Maintain and update employee files, records, and HR systems in compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Other duties as assigned to meet organizational goals.
Recruitment & Onboarding
Manage full-cycle recruitment for clinical and administrative roles, including sourcing, screening, interviewing, and onboarding.Collaborate with hiring managers to ensure a smooth, timely, and compliant hiring process.Support new hire orientation and training efforts to promote effective integration into the organization.Employee Relations & Workplace Culture
Provide guidance to HR team members on employee relations matters and assist with resolving more complex or sensitive issues, ensuring consistency with organizational values and policies.Promote a positive and respectful workplace through clear policies, communication, and accountability.Assist with employee engagement efforts, including surveys and feedback initiatives.Compliance & HIPAA
Support the organization’s compliance with HIPAA and other employment-related regulations.Partner with leadership to review and update policies as necessary to reflect changes in state and federal laws.Assist in investigations and resolution of employee concerns, including HIPAA-related incidents.Benefits & Compensation
Administer employee benefits programs including health insurance, retirement plans, and wellness initiatives.Act as liaison between employees and benefits broker to resolve questions and issues.Coordinate and analyze compensation data to support equitable pay practices and assist in maintaining competitive salary structures aligned with industry benchmarks.Training & Development
Coordinate training initiatives across the organization, including compliance training and leadership development.Work with managers to identify training needs and promote growth opportunities for team members.Performance Management
Manage the performance evaluation process, providing tools and guidance to ensure consistency.Support leaders in addressing performance concerns and facilitating improvement plans when necessary.Committee Participation
Support organizational committees such as the Charitable Giving Committee and the Belonging, Community, & Collaboration Committee.Help implement initiatives that align with company values and foster a mission-driven, collaborative workplace culture.Job Requirements and Education :
Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field.Must be nationally certified in HIPAA Privacy and Security or obtain certification within 3-6 months of hire, as this role also serves as the HIPAA Compliance Officer.Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 2–3 years in a supervisory or HR leadership role.Experience in a healthcare or medical practice setting is strongly preferred.Working knowledge of federal and state employment laws and HIPAA regulations.Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to confidently engage and collaborate with all levels of the practice, including senior leadership, physicians, board members, and officers.Comfortable presenting HR initiatives, updates, and reports to the board members and senior leadership with clarity and professionalism.Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.Proficiency with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite.Ability to travel to various practice locations as needed.
