QUALIFICATIONS :

1. High school diploma or GED Certificate

2. Previous experience as a custodian is desired though not essential.

3. Has met health requirements as specified in district personnel policy.

REPORTS TO : Principal

JOB GOAL :

Responsible for the proper and timely completion of all assigned cleaning ground care setup and moving and painting tasks in accordance with established procedures.

1.0 GENERAL KNOWLEDGE BASE

Knowledge Of :

1.1 Basic methods materials tools and equipment used in custodial work and routine maintenance.

1.2 Proper methods of storing equipment materials and supplies.

1.3 Proper lifting techniques.

2.0 ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Ability To :

2.1 Perform routine custodial activities at an assigned school site or facility to maintain buildings locker rooms and adjacent grounds areas in a clean orderly and secure condition.

2.2 Use cleaning materials equipment and methods according to pre-determined standards.

2.3 Learn and apply knowledge of the schedules procedures and use of equipment and supplies used in custodial work.

2.4 Learn appropriate safety precautions and procedures.

2.5 Maintain tools and equipment signed in clean working order and provide proper security.

2.6 Perform minor non-technical repairs.

2.7 Observe and report need for maintenance and repair.

2.8 Perform heavy physical labor.

2.9 Understand and follow oral and written directions.

2.10 Meet schedules and time lines.

2.11 Communicate effectively with others.

2.12 Inspect and assure the security of facilities during assigned shift.

2.13 Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

2.14 Walk bend lift push and stand for extended periods of time.

2.15 Walk extensively.

2.16 Climb stairs.

2.17 Walk in stooped position over a long period of time.

2.18 Work outside under adverse conditions without any ill effects.

2.19 Work inside building after heating / cooling is turned off.

2.20 Work weekend shift holidays and provide on-call coverage.

3.0 Performance Responsibilities

3.1 Must practice safety precautions and be safety conscious at all times.

3.2 Reports to immediate supervisor any items requiring maintenance and an unusual or unsafe condition.

3.3 Performs cleaning and sanitation tasks in assigned areas in accordance with established procedures.

These tasks include but are not limited to : disinfecting and cleaning restroom fixtures; dusting

furniture window sills and ledges; spot cleaning walls; doors and glass; collecting and removing trash from buildings; emptying ashtrays; vacuuming carpeted areas; dust mopping; wet mopping; spray buffing resilient tile floors; shampooing carpets; stripping and refinishing wood composition and resilient tile floors; sweeping and mopping concrete and hard surface floors; sweeping and mopping stairs; re-supplying paper and soap dispensers; polishing furniture; replacing burnt out lamps; and other cleaning-related tasks as far as interior work is concerned.

3.4 Operates and maintains powered cleaning equipment such as floor scrubbing machines other automatic scrubbers wet / dry vacuums carpet vacuums carpet shampooers pile brush vacuums and pressure washers.

3.5 Uses and maintains non-powered cleaning equipment such as mops brooms cleaning cloths spray bottles brushes and custodial carts.

3.6 Performs grounds care tasks in assigned areas in accordance with established procedures. These tasks include but are not limited to mowing edging trimming pruning watering fertilizing reseeding applying fungicides herbicides insecticides and addition performs regular policing tasks such as picking up trash emptying trash containers sweeping sidewalks parking areas and roadways; cleaning storm drains catch basins swales and unclogging drains if they should become obstructed with trash and debris.

3.7 Operates and maintains powered grounds care equipment such as mowers edgers trimmers vacuum machines blowers sprayers spreaders and saws.

3.8 Provides manual labor for a variety of tasks as directed by immediate supervisor. Manual labor tasks include but are not limited to : moving furniture and equipment; setting up tables chairs exhibits and displays; loading and unloading trucks etc.

3.9 Uses and maintains non-powered grounds care equipment such as shovels axes slings hoes wheelbarrows saws trimmers hedge trimmers trash pickup stick trash sack or trash container.

3.10 Moves office and school furniture and equipment as required to perform assigned cleaning and

grounds care work tasks.

3.11 Participates in off-shift weekend holiday and on-call coverage.

3.12 Demonstrates loyalty and dedication to the purposes and goals of the Ohio County Schools.

3.13 Performs other duties as directed by immediate supervisor.
