A Utility And Construction Flagger is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of traffic through construction and utility work zones. The Flagger serves as a critical safety liaison between the construction crews and the motoring public, ensuring the protection of workers, equipment, and pedestrians. This role requires constant vigilance, clear communication, and strict adherence to all established safety protocols and traffic control regulations.

Key Responsibilities And Duties :

• Traffic Control : Utilize flags, paddle signs (STOP / SLOW), and hand signals to maintain traffic flow, guide vehicles, and safely stop traffic as needed in accordance with Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) standards and company policy.
• Site Safety : Position traffic control devices (cones, barrels, barricades, signs) correctly and ensure the work zone is visible and clearly delineated for drivers and pedestrians.
• Communication : Maintain continuous communication with co-workers, equipment operators, and site supervisors using two-way radios to coordinate movements and prevent accidents.
• Public Interaction : Politely and professionally interact with the public, answering basic questions about traffic delays and ensuring clear instructions are provided to drivers and pedestrians.
• Emergency Response : Be prepared to react quickly and safely to unforeseen circumstances or emergencies within the work zone, escalating issues to the supervisor immediately.
• Inspection and Reporting : Conduct pre-shift checks of traffic control equipment for damage or proper function. Report any safety hazards, incidents, or damaged equipment to the supervisor promptly.
• Adherence to Standards : Consistently follow all federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA and specific utility / company safety mandates.
