Title : Maintenance Technician
Location : Chicago Heights, IL
Shift / Hours : Weekends, 9am-7 : 30pm Friday-Monday
Hourly Rate : $30hr - $36hr + shift differential
Summary
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining production and facility equipment to ensure maximum efficiency, safety, and compliance with food safety and quality standards. This role supports predictive and preventive maintenance programs and plays a key role in sustaining smooth operations in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on production and facility equipment, building systems, and grounds.
Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and plumbing issues on processing and packaging equipment.
Support equipment setup, changeovers, startups, shutdowns, and disassembly.
Complete accurate, timely maintenance documentation in CMMS (work orders, notifications, time tracking).
Follow all GMP, HACCP, Allergen, Food Defense, and company food safety policies.
Maintain compliance with all safety policies, procedures, PPE requirements, and equipment guarding standards.
Conduct shift hand-off discussions to ensure seamless communication across shifts.
Participate in continuous improvement, preventive maintenance, and 5S / Lean initiatives.
Assist in developing SOPs, operating parameters, and equipment procedures.
Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring tools and equipment are properly cared for.
Respond promptly to maintenance requests and prioritize tasks with supervisor / manager as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills
High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or trade school preferred.
1–3 years of maintenance experience in manufacturing (food industry experience preferred).
Entry-level skills in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing repair.
Familiarity with PLCs, VFDs, and HMIs, with basic troubleshooting knowledge.
Basic welding (ARC / MIG), fabrication, and shop equipment (mill, brake, press) experience.
Experience with CMMS systems for work orders and notifications.
Knowledge of 5S, Lean Manufacturing, and problem-solving methods.
Strong organizational and communication skills; ability to work in a team environment.
Willingness to work overtime or flexible hours as needed.
