Senior Staff Scientist / Ecologist

Job Description

General Responsibilities :

Conduct ecological and natural resource field surveys such as wetland delineations, threatened and endangered species assessments / surveys, tree inventories, and other ecological studies as necessary. Responsibilities may also include NEPA evaluations, environmental site investigations, assessments and surveys to sample, measure, and analyze a wide variety of environmental factors such as air, water, material, and soil. Identify and evaluate ecological risk factors and recommend risk strategies / designs to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations. Prepare applicable permit applications, risk assessments and technical documents including proposals, reports and regulatory agency correspondence.

This position requires the management of small, medium, and large-scale ecological projects, conducting field work, preparing scientific reports, training more inexperienced staff members, and conducting various business development activities.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities :

• Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
• Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
• Mid-level, experienced scientific professional responsible for project management, field activities, and client management.
• Participates with more senior scientists / engineers on large, more complex projects.
• Performs site visits, field observations and field data collection or assignments.
• Leads site visits for multiple state, federal, and local regulatory agencies.
• Implements technical requirements to complete client projects by directing and supervising field staff to collect data and / or document site activities.
• Responsible for developing written proposals to clients for both small and large projects including quality control review of proposals written by others.
• Evaluates complex laboratory and field data and assembles in written reports.
• May serve as team member or lead in meetings and communications with client pertaining to specific projects / tasks.
• May oversee work performed by lower level scientists / engineers and Technicians.
