University Facility Services is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Building Automation Lead Technician. The Building Automation Lead Technician provides advanced technical expertise, leadership, and oversight in the installation, operation, and maintenance of building automation systems (BAS) across the University of Arizona campus. This position ensures the reliability, efficiency, and sustainability of building systems by coordinating technical work, mentoring technicians, and collaborating with engineers, project managers, and campus stakeholders. The Lead Technician serves as the primary point of contact for troubleshooting complex system issues and supports continuous improvement of BAS standards, protocols, and energy optimization initiatives. This position is essential to maintaining mission-critical campus infrastructure and may require participation in an on-call rotation and response to after-hours emergencies.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Lead Technical Operations : Oversee daily activities of Building Automation Technicians; assign, review, and evaluate work. Operating, repairing, calibrating, and adjusting building automation systems and controls; act as a point of contact for building automation issues and coach junior team members to ensure compliance with standards, safety practices, and operational requirements.
• System Installation and Maintenance : Perform and direct advanced installation, programming, calibration, and repair of BAS controllers, sensors, and field devices; ensure systems are operating at optimal performance.
• Troubleshooting and Diagnostics : Serve as campus expert for diagnosing and resolving complex BAS and HVAC control issues; coordinate vendor support when necessary.
• Project Coordination : Collaborate with engineers, contractors, and Facilities project teams to review BAS design, integration, and commissioning on capital and renovation projects.
• Training and Documentation : Mentor junior staff; develop training materials, standard operating procedures, and system documentation for campus-wide use.
