The Utility Kitchen Worker is responsible for maintaining cleanliness standards through the operation of dishwashing equipment and sinks, polishing silverware, removing garbage, and cleaning of equipment and work areas, including the sweeping and mopping of floors. This position will also assist in general food preparation for events.

Located in downtown Tampa, the Straz offers flexible hours, event-based schedules including evenings and weekends, and a team-based work environment. Straz benefits for part-time staff include employee discounts and a 403(b) plan.

Essential Functions :

Compliance / Standards

  • Always complies with Straz standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient operations.
  • Maintains regular attendance in compliance with Straz standards, as required by scheduling which will vary according to the needs of the facility.
  • Is responsible for quality of food.
  • Ensures kitchen and equipment cleanliness.
  • Maintains kitchen in a clean and organized manner to facilitate high volume production.
  • Handles and stores food in a sanitary fashion.
  • Recognizes quality standards in fresh vegetables, fish, dairy, and meats.

Professionalism

  • Maintains high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which include wearing the proper uniform and nametag when working.
  • Always maintains a positive demeanor.
  • Approaches all encounters with guests / employees in a friendly and service-oriented manner.
  • Is attentive, friendly, helpful, and courteous to all guests, managers, and fellow employees.

    • Administrative

  • Coordinates with Kitchen Supervisor, Sous Chef, and / or Executive Chef for banquet functions and special orders.
  • Obtains all necessary supplies and equipment to perform duties, including stocking of all china dinnerware and silver, as needed.
  • Understands formal requisition process.
  • Attends meetings / trainings as required by management.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    • Minimum Qualifications :

  • Must be willing and available to work on-site.
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have basic knowledge of kitchen procedures and functions.
  • Be able to work in a stand-up position for long periods of time (minimum of 5 hours).
  • Be able to safely lift and easily maneuver up to 25 pounds.

    • Education

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • One year dishwashing experience preferred but not required.
  • Experience in a comparable facility or related field preferred.
