Main Purpose of Job
This position is the front-line employee responsible for the safe and efficient operation of State office buildings operated and maintained by the DGS. This position performs the daily work necessary to ensure the proper functioning of all building systems and equipment found in office buildings, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing and any other systems required for the safe and effective operation of modern office structures. This is an emergency essential position subject to emergency release procedures. Employees in this position must be willing and available for duty at all hours, day or night, and are required to remain or report for duty at all hours as needed to maintain the continuous operation of this agency. If you are the selected candidate for this position, you will be required to complete a Pre-Employment Physical, which will assess your ability to safely perform the essential functions of this position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education : Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency
certificate.
Experience : Three years of experience performing skilled trade work in plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC, locksmith, masonry, painting, or welding work.

1. Candidates may substitute additional years of experience for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Candidates may substitute Armed Forces military experience at a rank of Corporal / Petty Officer or higher, as a non-commissioned officer in utilities classifications or mechanical maintenance management specialty codes in utility systems repair, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
1. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
2. Employees in this classification who perform electrical work and are assigned to facilities that mandate licensed electricians must possess a current license as a Master Electrician or other appropriate electrician license from a local board or from the Maryland State Board of Master Electricians, 500 N. Calvert Street, Baltimore, Maryland 21202-3651.
3. Employees in this classification who perform work as a plumber must possess a Maryland Journeyman / Gas Fitter License.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
A motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland is
required for this position.

extended. The list will be used by the hiring authority to select
employees for interviews. Eligible
lists may be used to fill future vacancies of the same classification.
