Job Summary :
This research technician will conduct fieldwork and lab work related to water quality and fish population research. They will also contribute to the development of research presentations, manuscripts, and proposals.
Note : This is a part-time temporary position of up to 19 hours per week for two years, with possibility of an extension based on continuation of grant funding.
Qualifications :
- B.S. in Biology, Environmental Science, Marine Biology, or Oceanography.
- 6 months of experience conducting environmental science related research
- Demonstrated ability to write effective scientific reports.
- Experience with water quality monitoring and nutrient analysis.
- Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) Animal Care and Use certification.
- CITI Working with Fish in Research Settings certification.
- Detail-oriented organizational skills and ability to communicate professionally with students, staff, and faculty.
- Outstanding writing skills and experience with the environmental science literature.
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship and relocation allowance is not available for this position.
- Upon hire, candidate must have reliable personal transportation to facilitate travel between to all HPU worksites and other locations as required by the position. This includes a valid driver’s license and a personal vehicle that is legally registered and insured.
- Able to work all shifts and extended hours.
- Successful candidate will be able to work in an environment that utilize excellent time and stress management skills.
Key Responsibilities / Essential Job Functions :
Prepare, design, and refine fish survey methods. (20%)Conduct fish surveys every 2 months at Kalou loko wai. (40%)Interact with the North Shore Community Land Trust to deliver data and outreach materials. (20%)Help with water quality monitoring as time allows. (15%)Perform other related duties as assigned.
