About Birch Academy
Birch Academy is a 10-month specialized school approved by the New Hampshire Department of Education. Our program is thoughtfully designed for children whose primary special education needs are related to autism or developmental delays. We focus on building strong academic foundations, nurturing individual strengths, and promoting independence through functional communication and adaptive skills.

Who We’re Looking For : Bus Monitor
We are currently seeking a compassionate, enthusiastic, and reliable Bus Monitor to join our school team! This is a fantastic opportunity to make a daily difference in the lives of students while gaining hands-on experience in a collaborative, supportive educational environment.
Primary Duties
Student Safety & Supervision
Ensure the safety of students during loading, transit, and unloading.
Monitor and support students’ behavior on the bus in alignment with school and IEP behavior plans.
Maintain a safe and orderly environment at all times.
Loading and Unloading Assistance
Assist students entering and exiting the bus, including those with mobility or sensory needs.
Verify that students are seated and secured (seatbelts, harnesses, or other accommodations as required).
Communicate with drivers to ensure proper timing and safe transitions.
Behavioral & Emotional Support
Implement proactive strategies to support students with autism and developmental differences.
Redirect inappropriate behaviors using trained strategies (per staff training and BCBA / teacher guidance).
Reinforce positive behaviors during transport.
Communication & Collaboration
Relay important information about students’ behavior, incidents, or concerns to school staff and parents as appropriate.
Follow communication protocols for documenting incidents or concerns.
Partner with the driver to ensure smooth operation of routes.
Emergency Preparedness
Remain alert and prepared to respond to emergencies (e.g., evacuations, medical needs, behavior escalations).
Follow safety protocols and emergency procedures as trained.
Expectations
Arrive promptly at scheduled times (6 : 45 AM and 3 : 00 PM).
Demonstrate patience, empathy, and consistency with students.
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
Participate in required training (behavior support, safety, crisis prevention).
Qualifications :
High school diploma or equivalent (required)
Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or autism (preferred)
Ability to follow behavioral support plans and implement consistent routines
Strong teamwork, flexibility, and positive attitude
Willingness to learn and grow within a collaborative setting
