The School of Kinesiology at the University of Michigan invites applications and nominations for a non tenure-track faculty position at the level of Clinical Assistant Clinical Associate Professor or Clinical Professor ideally commencing in August 2026. We are seeking colleagues with exceptional experience in the field of sports biomechanics who are dedicated to mentoring learners with effective pedagogy.
Successful candidates will be able to teach undergraduate core courses such as Biomechanics of Human Movement laboratory sections and related courses. The ideal candidate will have expertise in the area of sports biomechanics and assist in the development of relevant elective courses for undergraduate and graduate students.
The ideal candidate will provide innovative pedagogical approaches the ability to facilitate student experiential learning and mentor graduate student instructors (GSIs). Effort in these 9-month appointments consists of 75% teaching responsibilities and 25% engagement in administration service and scholarship over fall and winter terms. Administrative responsibilities will be based on the programs needs as well as the candidates expertise and prior experience. Engagement in professional scholarship and participation in departmental university and / or community service is expected. The selected candidate will participate in curricular developmental initiatives attend faculty meetings and serve as a mentor as assigned and on other school or campus committees. The School of Kinesiology is one of 19 independent academic units and one of seven health science schools and colleges within the fall 2020 and again in fall 2023 the National Academy of Kinesiology ranked the University of Michigan School of Kinesiology doctoral program as the #1 program in the U.S . The school is led by Dean Lori Ploutz-Snyder and has 40 tenure-line faculty approximately 1250 undergraduate students and 152 graduate students. In 2021 the school moved into a newly renovated state-of-the-art academic and research building( School of Kinesiology Building ) that is located in the heart of the University of Michigans main campus. The $120M renovation project expands the School of Kinesiologys research classroom and office space to approximately 189000 gross sq. ft. The new building also includes state-of-the-art facilities to support biomechanics teaching and research including dedicated lecture and laboratory classrooms along with many other research laboratories and centers . The shared biomechanics research space includes 9800 sq. ft. of biomechanics labs including a large (2741 sq. ft.) gait lab with 7 embedded force plates an instrumented staircase an instrumented treadmill and two motion capture systems. New faculty will have access to all spaces and shared equipment such as full-body inertial measurement systems wireless electromyography systems research-grade ultrasound and isokinetic dynamometry. Finally new faculty will have access to the state-of-the-art core computing resources at the University of Michigan.

Required Qualifications
Ph.D. preferred in kinesiology or a related field. While a doctoral degree is preferred masters degree-holding candidates with a particularly strong pedagogical clinical research or industry background are encouraged to apply.
Two or more years of teaching in higher education or employment in a relevant applied or clinical setting is highly desirable.
Proven success in contributing to a positive workplace culture and the ability to consistently demonstrate our schools Core Values are necessary.
Preferred qualifications include :
Development and instruction of upper-level biomechanics content with innovative classroom lab experiences;
Research or applied experience in the area of sports biomechanics;
Experience and skills serving as a course coordinator training GSIs on lab protocols and procedures providing oversight of course lab sections maintaining inventory of teaching lab supplies pedagogical mentoring of GSIs curriculum development contributing to new academic curricula developing inclusive teaching initiatives and collaborative research and scholarship.
