Job Summary The FOIA Officer and Planning Assistant position is an entry-level position. The primary responsibilities are to process a variety of FOIA requests; receiving and responding to requests for information; using multiple resources to research and locate relevant records; maintaining orderly files; other responsibilities may include but are not limited to assisting with managing official Department records and informational assets, or other specific assignments as needed. An accredited bachelor’s degree is required. Related fields of study include but are not limited to Planning, Public Administration, and Environmental Sciences. Minimum Qualifications Must have : a valid driver’s license; strong oral and written communication skills; excellent organizational ability with attention to detail and thoroughness; willingness to gain cooperation, encourage action, take initiative in problem-solving; an aptitude with Microsoft Office software in a Windows operating system and cloud-based environment; ability to learn and operate new software applications as needed; a knowledge of architectural and engineering plans, site plans, and legal documents relative to zoning, building, and land development regulations; be able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information, particularly information exempt from release under Illinois FOIA law. Occasional after hours (evening) work is necessary.
