Job Posting : Reserve School Resource Officer
Provides certified law enforcement duties for an assigned school campus within the City of Largo. The work includes but is not limited to, campus patrol, crime prevention, crime detection and investigations, and traffic control.
The Reserve School Resource Officer (RSRO) program is a community-based, collaborative school policing and law enforcement initiative that provides school campuses with professionals who serve as role models. The RSRO holds the same level of authority and responsibility imparted upon the full-time Law Enforcement Officer, including arrest powers. RSRO authority and responsibility may be limited by Largo Police Department policy and procedure.
Work is performed under the direction of a Police Sergeant. The RSRO will be tasked with the general safety of their assigned school with minimal supervision and with considerable latitude in using initiative and independent judgment. Position relies on experience to determine the best approach by using and interpreting policies and procedures. The RSRO may be assigned shifts at more than one school during the year based on department needs.
WORK SCHEDULE : Up to 1599 hours annually. The RSRO schedule will run concurrently with the student school schedule at the school to which the officer is assigned. This may include hours for activities outside the school's standard school schedule hours.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS : Must have separated from all prior law enforcement agencies in good standing; successful completion of pre-employment criminal background check, drug testing, physical examination, and psychological evaluation.

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience :
- Eligible for the State of Florida Law Enforcement Certificate issued by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission (CJSTC) at the time of application or current Florida Law Enforcement Officer with firearms certification
- Five (5) years of experience with a Florida Law Enforcement Agency
- High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
- Sixty (60) semester credit hours from an accredited college or university (the 60 credit hours will be waived for applicants with at least two years prior law enforcement-related experience or two years active military duty)
- Valid Driver's License
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Work Environment : 15% inside a climate-controlled building; 85% outside, including driving.
Physical Requirements : The essential functions of the job require sitting approximately 30% of work time, standing approximately 40% of work time, and walking approximately 30% of work time, depending on the assignment. The job also requires frequent bending / stooping, grasping, reaching, and lifting / carrying objects weighing up to 15 pounds, with occasional fine manipulations, pulling / pushing, and repetitive motion. On rare occasions, the work requires climbing, crawling, kneeling, and lifting / carrying objects weighing 15 pounds or more.
Sensory Requirements : Hearing : Enough to hear alarm signals and radio transmissions, understand what others are saying in normal conversation, and detect specific noises or voices during group conversations. Speaking : Enough to communicate orally with others in person, via radio and telephone transmissions, and during formal presentations to groups. Seeing : Enough to operate a vehicle, read fine print and normal print, observe numbers, view mobile computing screens, license plates, and street signs at night.
Driving Requirements : Requires occasional driving and possession of a valid Florida Driver's License.
Technology : The work requires the ability to operate telephones, smartphones, tablets, photocopiers, printers, desktop and laptop computers, calculators, and all associated software.

Elements of Selection Process :
Duration of The Process : The expected duration of the interview selection process for filling the position should take approximately three (3) to four (4) weeks or longer depending on the size of the applicant pool.
Agency's Policy On Reapplication : Applicants who complete the process but are not selected will be placed on an eligibility list for 90 days, and / or may reapply in subsequent hiring processes. Applicants who are rejected for sworn employment due to background concerns, or not meeting threshold performance during any phase of the process may not reapply for one year from the date of rejection.
