New Hanover County is looking for a full-time Residential Real Property Appraiser to join the Tax Department to maintain, list, and appraise property accurately and impartially in accordance with applicable state laws for tax assessment purposes. An employee in this class performs appraisal work in determining the value of primarily residential properties for tax purposes in the county.
Responsibilities for this role include :
Under general supervision, employees update & maintain property data records of residential & less complicated commercial properties for tax assessment purposes. Work involves but is not limited to :
- Appraise residential property using approved schedules, standards, and rules which apply to mass appraisal for property-tax purposes
- Determine value on residential property using approved schedules, standards, and rules which apply to mass appraisal for property-tax purposes.
- Review, verify, and document property records characteristics.
- Discovery and listing of new construction, sales verification process, splits and combinations.
- Meets with property owners and explains appraisals and the ad valorum tax process.
- Aid in making recommendations to the Board of Equalization and Review.
- Assist in the training of new appraisers.
- Required to work outside most of the time, including times of inclement weather conditions.
- Other duties as assigned.

Salary Information :
The hiring range f or this position is $48,678 - $65,715, plus a competitive benefits package. Salary will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations.
