U.S. Army Preventive Medicine Officers are key to the prevention of disease and injury to our Soldiers and their families. Outstanding Opportunities As a Preventive Medicine Officer in the U.S. Army, you will provide Army Soldiers, retirees, and their families with opportunities to increase their own health and well-being. You may have the opportunity to establish and direct physical medicine and rehabilitation programs at medical installations, train, and mentor other medical personnel. You will lead and direct Force Health Protection efforts by preventing or mitigating clinically significant exposures and health threats at the individual and population levels through assessment, mitigation, and communication of exposures and risks. Another focus of your practice will be to direct and oversee the execution of the core functions of public health : assessment, policy development, and assurance. The U.S. Army provides additional training and continuation of education programs to create opportunities for growth as both a military officer and a healthcare professional. These additional education opportunities help you lead a coordinated public health response through professional interactions with other public health disciplines such as public health nurses, entomologists, environmental scientists, occupational medicine officers, and industrial hygienists.
