Applies electrical, electronic and mechanical principles to components and systems, including assembly, analysis, and documentation of results; construction of developmental assemblies, sub-assemblies and components; and quality testing. Supports and participates in the design, test, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype electromechanical systems.

This position requires technical ability to lead the development of design, qualification, installation and improvements for the Machinery Control and Monitoring System hardware. The engineer will lead design studies (e.g., root cause analysis, new design development), identify life-cycle cost reductions, conduct laboratory testing, analyze results, and assist with developing integrated technical positions and recommendations for customer approval. The engineer will resolve problems identified during equipment manufacture, installation, operation, and maintenance. The engineer will assist in developing products and provisioning documentation, and maintain technical manuals and drawings. The ideal candidate will possess carrier knowledge, and some level of expertise in power, piping, and machinery design / analysis. The individual shall have graduated from an ABET accredited institution with a BS degree (electrical, mechanical, marine, nuclear or chemical engineering) and have excellent verbal and technical writing skills.

Basic Qualifications

9 Years with Bachelors in Science; 7 Years with Masters; 4 Years with PhD.- Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
