PPD, the clinical research business of Thermo Fisher Scientific, has a new opening for an Associate Counsel, Contracts (known as a Contracts Attorney internally) on our corporate Legal Contracts Team to support several PPD departments.

The role can be held as a hybrid office position in Pittsburgh PA, Raleigh, NC, or Paisely UK

The Associate Counsel Contracts position provides legal advice and support in drafting, review and negotiations of business agreements and contracts for assigned PPD departments. It serves as the primary contact to ensure PPD's best interests are protected and that senior management has the legal information necessary to make informed decisions and grant approvals for business risks.

With minimal oversight, provides legal advice and represents the company in legal matters.

Prepares, negotiates and finalizes Company Agreements such as contract amendments, enterprise service agreements, non-compete agreements, non-disclosure agreements, etc.

Assesses legal risks and provides recommendations and alternative mitigating resolutions to senior management.

Provides training to other departments on contract requirements and other legal matters.

Understands and adheres to Standard Operating Procedures and other regulations for all aspects of project implementation, execution and closeout.

Assists in other legal matters, as required.

Assists with customer disputes as requested.

Education and Experience :

Bachelor's degree and advanced degree in law (Juris doctorate).

Previous legal or contract experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 2+ years).

In some cases, an equivalency, consisting of appropriate education, training, and / or directly related experience will be considered sufficient for an individual to meet the requirements of the role.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

Capable of drafting and negotiating routine contract provisions autonomously and complex contract provisions, with oversight

Ability to work independently and as a team player

Must be able to identify risk and evaluate fact patterns to advise on the application of the law (may require some oversight)

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with proven ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently and effectively

Must be flexible and able to reprioritize workload to meet changing project needs

Strong Microsoft Office skills

Excellent English and grammar skills, written and oral

Excellent analytical and decision based thinking

The salary range estimated for this position in North Carolina is $85,000-105,000 USD. This position will also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and / or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. Actual compensation will be confirmed in writing at the time of offer.
