Fiber Optic Technician - San Diego, CA - Career Opportunity

Job Description

  • We are seeking Fiber Optic Technicians with expertise in the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting support of voice, video, and / or data communications networks. Ideal candidates will have experience working with single or multi-strand multi-mode or single-mode fiber optic cables within government facilities. Your primary tasks will include the installation, termination, labeling, testing, troubleshooting, and certification of cabling components.

Responsibilities

  • Read, understand, and follow customer work item instructions, drawings, and cable routing diagrams to install, tag, and band fiber optic cable assemblies on board US Navy Ships.
  • Use customer wiring list drawings for termination of fiber optic connectors in accordance with Military Standards and NAVY Standard Items.
  • Utilize optical test equipment for performing in-process and final tests of installed and terminated cable assemblies.
  • Troubleshoot and repair damaged or non-conforming cable assemblies to ensure compliance with customer specifications.
  • Document and maintain detailed test and inspection records for all cable assemblies.
  • Ensure proper setup and calibration of all termination and test equipment.
  • Perform duties required to layout, fabricate, and install electrical wiring, coaxial cable, waveguides, or fiber optic cable on Navy vessels.
  • Troubleshoot and test fiber and copper cables and circuits.
  • Read and interpret drawings, specifications, technical manuals, and design notices.
  • Use tools of the trade such as multi-meters, pin crimpers, and soldering equipment to accomplish complex electrical installation tasks.
  • Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of shipboard experience.
  • Previous certification or ability to quickly certify in fiber optic connectization and inspection.
  • Understanding of customer work item requirements, drawings, and wiring diagrams.
  • Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Familiarity with basic computer skills and MS-Office programs, including Word and Excel.
  • Experience as a Marine Electrician with relevant ship repair experience on US Navy ships.
  • Ideal candidates are former Navy personnel such as Electronics Technician (ET), Information Systems Technician (IC), Aviation Maintenance (AT), or Electrician's Mate (EM).

    This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, CA.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $40.00 / hr.
