About City Year
City Year, a proud AmeriCorps program, is dedicated to ensuring students can thrive in schools. Our team of City Year AmeriCorps members provides vital support to students and classrooms, striving to equip students for a successful future and community engagement.
Your Role
As a City Year AmeriCorps member, you will be instrumental in coaching and mentoring elementary, middle, and high school students. Your efforts will enhance their academic success, improve attendance, and cultivate positive behaviors. You'll engage in planning and monitoring student progress while collaborating with teachers for effective class instruction and support.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide tailored academic coaching and interpersonal development for students, working both one-on-one and in small groups.
- Enhance literacy and math skills through diverse learning activities, encouraging students to complete their assignments.
- Implement a behavior management system to promote a positive learning environment.
- Foster interpersonal skills using proven strategies of learning, practice, reflection, and repetition.
- Collaborate with teachers and colleagues to collect and analyze individual student progress data, participating in reviews of this information.
- Create a safe and engaging classroom atmosphere alongside the teacher.
- Support whole school initiatives to strengthen student and family engagement.
- Assist in extended day programs and other activities focused on academic enrichment, homework support, and leadership development.
- Contribute to events and programs recognizing student achievement and growth in various areas such as math, literacy, and behavior.
