YMCA Camping and Outdoor Education offers outdoor experiences that foster personal growth and build community. After taking part in our programs, children and youth return home more confident, independent, and with new friendships. YMCA Camp Pine Crest is an overnight camp serving children, families, and organizations through naturally focused programs that embody the mission, vision, and outcomes of the YMCA. Camp Pine Crest is made up of 650 acres of Muskoka wilderness surrounded by 3 interconnected lakes with 8km of shoreline; has over 26km of hiking trails and 7,500 sq. ft. of dock and has 60 buildings.
The Counselling Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the planning, coordination, and delivery of camper programs while ensuring a safe, engaging, and age-appropriate environment for all participants. The role provides leadership, mentorship, and ongoing feedback to Counsellors and MACKs, supporting staff development, performance management, and program quality throughout the summer. Counselling Supervisors are directly involved in daily cabin programming and collaborate with other camp departments to address challenges, maintain communication, and prioritize camper care. The position includes supervising camper activities, resolving escalated incidents, and supporting day-to-day program execution while fostering positive relationships with campers, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
In this role, you will :
- Plan and facilitate section nights and cabin programs for campers within the assigned group to ensure meaningful and engaging experiences
- Provide leadership to camp staff by training, coaching, motivating, monitoring performance, and conducting mid- and end-of-summer performance appraisals to ensure staff meet expectations and camp objectives
- Build and maintain positive relationships with members, staff, volunteers, and community partners to foster collaboration and a sense of community
- Oversee the overall care, safety, and well-being of campers within the group, including during out-trips
- Supervise and support assigned Counsellors and MACKs by actively engaging in their programming throughout the summer
- Help manage and resolve escalating camper conflicts in a timely and constructive manner
- Organize, distribute, and collect Camper Experience Forms, Parent Letters, Post Cards, and Birthday Cards to maintain effective communication and documentation
- Perform other duties as assigned
