About Us

At Wachter, we specialize in delivering innovative, state-of-the-art audiovisual systems for a wide range of industries. From corporate offices to educational institutions, we design, install, and maintain systems that enhance collaboration, communication, and experiences for our clients. Our team is committed to excellence in both technical capabilities and customer service, and we are looking for an AV Field Engineer to join our growing team.

As a company, we value a culture of continuous learning, hands‑on problem solving, and client satisfaction. We offer a collaborative and supportive work environment where your skills will be valued, and your professional growth is encouraged. If you’re looking for a challenging yet rewarding role in the AV industry, this position could be a great fit for you!

Position Overview

AV Field Engineer – You’ll be responsible for overseeing portions of the lifecycle of AV system installations, from design redlines to post‑installation support. The ideal candidate is highly technical, detail‑oriented, and has excellent communication skills for working directly with clients and internal teams.

This role requires a hands‑on approach. You’ll configure complex AV systems, balance audio systems, and ensure that systems function as intended. You will also train clients on system usage and provide ongoing support as needed. With up to 75% travel required, you will work in a variety of locations and projects.

Key Responsibilities

Configuration & Optimization – Configure and fine‑tune AV equipment on‑site to ensure optimal performance, including balancing audio systems and adjusting video settings. Manage the configuration of control systems like Crestron or Extron, ensuring seamless integration and user‑friendly operation.

Troubleshooting & Problem‑Solving – Utilize advanced troubleshooting tools to diagnose and resolve issues with AV systems, addressing both hardware and software concerns. Serve as the go‑to expert for resolving any technical issues that arise during installation or after the system is live.

System Design Redlines – Review and make necessary changes to system designs in the field, including redlining designs and adjusting configurations to meet project requirements and maintain peak performance.

Client Training & Support – Provide on‑site training to clients, ensuring they are confident in operating the AV systems independently. Act as a technical resource, offering ongoing support and troubleshooting guidance, both in person and remotely, as part of Level 2 helpdesk support.

Documentation & Reporting – Maintain detailed documentation for each installation, including system configurations, IP addresses, wiring diagrams, and other technical specifications for client reports and future maintenance.

Collaboration with Engineering Teams – Work closely with engineers, designers, and programmers to ensure seamless project execution. Serve as an extension of the project engineering team in the field.

Qualifications and Experience

Education – High school diploma or equivalent required. College degree in a related field (e.g., Electronics, AV Systems, IT) is a plus.

Experience – At least 3 years of hands‑on experience in the installation, troubleshooting, and commissioning of audio‑visual equipment in a field environment. Experience with AV systems (audio, video, control) is required.

Certifications – CTS (Certified Technology Specialist) required within 6 months of hire. CTS‑I (Certified Technology Specialist – Installation) highly recommended. Additional certifications in Crestron, Biamp, Extron, or other industry technologies are a plus.

Skills & Abilities – In-depth knowledge of AV installation techniques, equipment configuration, and troubleshooting. Strong understanding of AV system design and requirements. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Ability to use advanced troubleshooting tools and software.

Technical Knowledge – Experience with AV equipment, including sound systems, projectors, video conferencing systems, and control systems (Crestron, Extron, Biamp, etc.). Strong understanding of networking basics for AV systems (IP addresses, device configuration, etc.).

Working Conditions & Physical Demands

Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs.

Comfortable working at heights and climbing ladders to access equipment or set up systems.

Ability to work in varying physical environments, including confined spaces or noisy environments.

Must be able to travel up to 75% of the time for on‑site installations, client meetings, and support.

Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently while handling multiple projects simultaneously.

Ability to adapt to changing site conditions and ensure timely and successful project completions.
