Assistant Controller

Addison, TX – onsite 4 days / week

• CPA Required

Compensation : $150K + 20% bonus + equity program

One of Vaco’s PE-backed CPG clients is looking to onboard an Assistant Controller as part of a recent restructuring and the creation of a new role.  Will oversee 2 Managers + Seniors / Staffs (total team size 7-8~ ppl) and be responsible for the full cycle close process, reviewing recons, high-risk journal entries, technical accounting research and balance sheet / income statement analysis.

Key Responsibilities :

Lead technical accounting research and prepare position papers on complex transactions (revenue recognition, lease accounting, business combinations, debt / equity, stock compensation, etc.).

Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting standards (if applicable), and internal control requirements.

Partner with external auditors and manage audit requests, providing timely and accurate responses.

Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements.

Support preparation of quarterly and annual financial reporting, including disclosures and footnotes.

Monitor new accounting pronouncements and assess their impact on the business.

Assist the Controller and CFO in developing accounting policies, processes, and internal controls.

Drive process improvements, automation initiatives, and system enhancements to increase efficiency and accuracy.

Mentor, develop, and oversee accounting staff to build a high-performing team.

Qualifications :

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.

CPA required.

7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including public accounting (Big 4 or national firm preferred) and corporate accounting.

Strong technical accounting expertise with proven experience in U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting.

Experience with complex transactions such as M&A, debt / equity, revenue recognition, and leases.

Solid understanding of internal controls, SOX compliance, and accounting policy development.

ERP system proficiency (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or similar); strong Excel and financial reporting skills.
