Specialized work assisting in theBehavioral and Enrichment Section of the Animal Care and Control Division. Conducts training of staff and volunteers; handles animals; assesses animal behavior; makes recommendations for placement of animals; assists in developing and running enrichment programs to increase animal adoptions and the live release rate, and reduce euthanasia of adoptable animals. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Section Manager and is reviewed through conferences, written reports, and observation of results obtained.

QUALIFICATIONS :

Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; minimum of two (2) years of experience in a veterinary office, animal kennel, animal shelter, inventory control in retail / medical office, or similar facility assessing animal behavior, handling, and training, OR one (1) year of experience in general / clerical office AND inventory controls.

PREFERENCE FOR : Two (2) years of experience working in a group setting with volunteers; one (1) year of experience practicing the "Dogs Playing For Life" model in a shelter setting; one (1) year experience using animal shelter specific software such as Chameleon or PetPoint; one (1) year of experience developing and implementing feline enrichment programs; Associate’s / Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science (must specify on application) .
