Summary
The Department of Human Resources, (CESD) seeks a dynamic, knowledgeable and customer service focused Safety Trainer to join the where the number one priority is the health and safety of King County employees. As one team, the CESD supports a thriving King County employment experience and provides integrated compensation, benefits, work / life well-being, safety, and retirement planning services.
This recruitment will be used to fill one immediate Career Service vacancy and to create an eligibility pool to fill additional Career Service, Term-Limited Temporary (TLT), or Special Duty Assignment (SDA) vacancies that may occur within the next six months.
The Safety Trainer will be responsible for conducting safety trainings including but not limited to the following topics :
- Adult First Aid / CPR / AED
- WA State Flagger Certification
- Defensive Driving
- Forklift Operation
- Bloodborne Pathogens and Heat Related Illness
- Active Shooter and Workplace Violence Prevention
- Other safety training topics as assigned
The Safety Trainer will also respond to training requests, schedule trainings, and enter training courses and program information into NEOGOV Learn.

Job Duties

Coordinate Training Events : Organize on-site and open-enrollment sessions, administer assessments, and evaluate learning outcomes.
Develop and Maintain Educational Resources : Create, promote, and market accurate, culturally appropriate safety materials. Manage and update a library of training and reference content.
Manage Learning Systems : Set up and administer courses in the NEOGOV Learn platform, ensuring accurate registration, attendance tracking, and data reporting.
Allocate Training Resources : Oversee budgets, facilities, and materials to ensure smooth delivery of training programs.
Define Program Vision and Strategy : Develop the vision, mission, and direction for King County's safety training efforts, including creating work plans and program objectives.
Consult with Departments : Collaborate with management teams to assess safety training needs and develop, implement, and evaluate strategies to address them.
Design and Evaluate Training Programs : Identify, evaluate, and develop training methods and materials, ensuring alignment with state regulations and organizational goals.
Develop Learning Plans : Identify department and individual needs and design tailored learning plans.
Respond to Inquiries : Address safety training questions from employees and management.
Coordinate with External Vendors : Facilitate training sessions with third-party providers and online platforms.
Refine and Enrich Safety Programs : Continuously improve safety courses to meet evolving employee needs and regulatory requirements.
Support Safety Policy Development : Participate in shaping County safety policies.
Engage with External Partners : Represent King County in collaborations with organizations like Evergreen Safety Council, Red Cross, and Health and Safety Institute, as well as with agencies such as Washington State Department of Transportation and Labor & Industries.
Collaborate with Community Partners : Contribute to developing safety courses with organizations such as Evergreen Safety Council (Traffic Control), National Safety Council (Defensive Driving), and Health and Safety Institute (BasicPlus First Aid / CPR / AED).

Work Conditions and / or Environment
This position requires travel to various King County worksites to meet with employees and provide training. Must have a valid Washington State Driver's license to operate a Non-Revenue County Vehicle or the ability to travel to remote King County worksites in a timely manner. This position will require transportation of training props (CPR manikins, first aid materials etc.) and lifting of approximately 20 pounds.
Work Schedule
This position is exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is therefore not overtime eligible. Employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule, every other Thursday, comprising a 40-hour workweek. The Safety Trainer provides training across all shifts, to current employees. The person in this role must be able to work a flexible schedule; as onsite training may occur in the early morning (prior to 8 : 00 AM), in the evening (after 5 : 00 PM) to accommodate swing and night shift, and infrequently on weekends.
Telework Requirement
The work associated with this position will be performed in a hybrid capacity with a combination of both onsite work and limited telework of one day per week on average. The primary reporting location of the position is at the King Street Center, 201 S. Jackson St., Seattle, WA 98104. Onsite training will occur more frequently than virtual training. King County employees must reside in Washington State and within a reasonable distance to worksites to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
