POSITION SUMMARY
Under general supervision, the Fire Alarm System Technician inspects, tests, maintains, and repairs installed fire alarm detection and mass notification systems in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications and National Fire Protection Association standards. Work may be reviewed by supervision for general compliance to acceptable trade practices and procedures. This position may provide technical guidance to lower level technicians.
TYPICAL DUTIES : 1.
- Analyzes blueprints, schematics, drawings, and programming of fire alarm and / or other related electrical systems for the purpose of determining the efficient installation of new or upgraded systems.2.
- Inspects fire alarm equipment visually and replaces defective components; tests initiating and signal circuits, detectors, and system transmitter, and makes needed repairs.3.
- Coordinates with assigned Foreman and / or other trades for the purpose of completing projects and work orders efficiently.4.
- Diagnoses causes of electrical problems or failures in assigned systems for the purpose of identifying equipment and / or systems repair.5.
- Informs personnel regarding procedures and / or status of work orders for the purpose of providing information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and / or complying with health and building regulations.6.
- Inspects electrical / fire alarm / mass notification systems and their components for the purpose of evaluating condition, identifying necessary repairs, and recommending preventative maintenance.7.
- Installs electrical system components as assigned (., panels, audible / visual alarms, pull stations, detectors, for the purpose of providing enhanced and / or upgraded system capabilities.8.
- Maintains assigned, tools and test equipment for the purpose of ensuring availability of equipment in the workplace.9.
- Monitors the electrical / fire alarm / mass notification system work of outside contractors for the purpose of ensuring that the projects are satisfactorily completed and within local / state / federal and district codes, regulations, and specifications.10.
- Participates in meetings, workshops, training, and seminars, as assigned for the purpose of conveying and / or gathering information required to perform job functions.11.
- Prepares written materials for the purpose of documenting activities and / or conveying information.12.
- Responds to emergency situations during and after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.13.
- Transports a variety of tools, equipment, and supplies for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at job site.14. Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT :
Work is performed at a customer’s location in office, shop, warehouse, or outdoor environment. May require driving to and from worksite locations. Equipment can be located in crawl spaces, rooftops, and outside facility. Employees may be exposed to hazardous and / or toxic substances, electrical shock, noise from equipment, and depending on external weather conditions, wind, rain, cold, and heat.
