Specialist 2 : Accounting

The Specialist 2 : Accounting is expected to :

  • Review and process student, agency, and vendor accounts
  • Prepare billings, and process payments and refunds
  • Process student payment plans, exemptions, and contracts in the College's enterprise resource planning system and ensure the accuracy of data
  • Assist students and agencies with questions pertaining to their accounts
  • Establish and maintain confidential files
  • Perform in-house collection activities
  • Perform cashiering duties
  • Provide data and prepare financial reports and statements
  • Perform related duties of a similar nature or level

The work schedule for this position is flexible and may include working evenings and weekends. The needs of this position require district-wide rotations to each campus.

Duties and responsibilities include :

  • Generating student payments
  • Verifying transactional accuracy
  • Generating and compiling information from the Enterprise Resource Planning system
  • Reconciling Enterprise Resource Planning or similar records
  • Compiling and reporting tax information
  • Researching and preparing reports
  • Coordinating accounting processes to meet audit and fiscal deadlines
  • Accepting payments, such as for tuition, fees, and other charges
  • Initiating payments including student refunds
  • Posting various charge and payment items within the Enterprise Resource Planning system
  • Reconciling and adjusting student accounts
  • Providing exceptional customer service

    • Job requirements :

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Degree and one to three years of accounting, bookkeeping, or related experience
  • or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above

    • Preferred :

  • Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field of study
  • Three to five years of accounting, bookkeeping, or related experience

    • The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities :

  • Demonstrated high-quality judgment and decision-making using critical thinking and complex problem-solving techniques
  • Modern principles of finance and business services including accounts receivable
  • Applicable state and federal laws and regulations that apply to financial services and operations in a public organization
  • Financial information systems including cloud-based and Enterprise Resource Planning systems
  • Computers, including portable computing devices and applicable peripherals, operating systems, and software
  • Application of new policies, processes, and procedures to streamline workflow in complex organizations
  • Implementation of technological solutions to automate and streamline business processes
  • Openness to change and continuous process improvement
  • Implementing improvements to processes and procedures
  • Application of relevant laws and regulations as they apply to finance and financial services in a public institution
  • Managing change and handling sensitive topics
  • Preparing basic documents and reports
  • Analyzing complex situations
  • Effectively communicating technical or complex information in English, both orally and in writing
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with a broad range of constituents, including the College community and the public
