Director Of Accounting
The City of Spokane invites applications for the position of Director of Accounting. The department is responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of effective financial accounting systems and controls. This position is responsible for managing all aspects of the accounting workflow, including general ledger, AR, AP, fixed assets, and payroll. This position is also responsible for leading and managing process improvement and systems integration, with a focus on improving service delivery, reducing manual efforts and leveraging best practices.
Key responsibilities include producing periodic, annual financial statements, managing and maintaining the General Accounting and Financial Reporting functions, conveying financial and regulatory concepts clearly, providing technical guidance on complex accounting issues, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships, overseeing financial and accounting system controls, and ensuring the accounting department is staffed with qualified personnel.
Requirements include knowledge of financial statements, administering a large municipal accounting function, and the principles of fund accounting. Ability to independently identify and carry out strategic vision, maintain confidentiality, negotiate and resolve business issues, analyze and communicate complex financial situations, and read, understand, and interpret contracts and laws.
Minimum qualifications include a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, seven years of increasingly progressive professional accounting experience, and three years of direct supervisory experience of an accounting group.
