Accounting Manager

Cardinal Staffing Services is seeking an Accounting Manager on behalf of a reputable manufacturing company in Lansing, Michigan. In this key leadership position, you'll lead a committed accounting team, champion financial precision, and influence strategic decisions within a vibrant, expanding organization. You'll oversee all core financial operationsincluding the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payrollwhile ensuring the reliability and accuracy of financial statements, streamlining monthly and annual close processes, and establishing strong internal controls. This is a direct hire role offering a salary of $85,000 per year and a comprehensive benefit package. More information is available upon interview.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

  • Direct daily accounting operations, including accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), general ledger (GL), and payroll.
  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for timely, accurate financial reporting.
  • Develop and enforce accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to enhance efficiency and compliance.
  • Mentor and develop team members; review / approve journal entries, reconciliations, and transactions.

Transactions & Operations

  • Oversee banking activities, including reconciliations and debt payments.
  • Ensure AP invoices are paid promptly, supported, and optimized for discounts.
  • Drive timely AR collections and maintain a streamlined filing system.
  • Manage accurate, on-time payroll processing.
  • Uphold robust internal controls and GL integrity.

    • Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare and issue monthly financial statements.
  • Deliver ad-hoc financial analyses to support business insights.

    • Compliance & Audit Support

  • Collaborate with the Controller on annual external audits.
  • Handle local, state, and federal reporting, including tax filings.
  • Coordinate third-party audits (e.g., workers' comp, sales / use tax, general liability).

    • Qualifications : Required

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 3+ years of accounting experience, including proven management / leadership roles.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial controls.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, or ERP systems) and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.

    • Preferred

  • Experience in a manufacturing setting (e.g., cost accounting, inventory valuation).
  • Familiarity with advanced ERP systems or data analytics tools.
